Have you been wanting a pink bed? I love pink in all aspects of my love and was on the hunt for the perfect chic pink upholstered bed. Of course, the bed I fell in love with was over $1300 (without the mattress) and since we were doing our master bedroom makeover on a budget that one was out. Frustrated I couldn't find a good pink bed, we decided to make our own chic pink upholstered bed and I wanted to share the process.
How to Make Your Own Chic Pink Upholstered Bed for Under $300
Before Our Pink Bed Makeover
Before we started our bedroom makeover we had a white Broyhill set we got on Facebook marketplace about 8 years ago, when we bought our first time (and before this one). I love the set but wanted to shift the style to something a little more chic and modern.
Planning Out Your Bedroom Update
I use Canva for all my graphic design needs and this project was no different. In Canva Pro you are able to remove image backgrounds and it made it super helpful to try out different lamps, rugs, and bedframe shapes before committing to our project. I knew I wanted a chic pink upholstered bed and white/cream accents with gold accents. To save money we decided to keep the dresser and armoire from our previous bedroom set and update the knobs for a more modern look.
Chic Pink Upholstered Bed: Choosing Fabric
The higher-end chic pink upholstered beds I saw all used brushed velvet, so that was what I went in hunt of. I looked for fabric on Etsy as well as many online distributors including West Elm, which sells the fabric from the exact bed I wanted, but it was all very pricey. After feeling discouraged I decided to try local shops. Just search fabric outlets or upholstery shops in your area. I went to two spots and found this amazing blush pink upholstery fabric for $6/yard on sale! What a steal, I walked out with 7 yards of pink upholstery bed fabric for $32.
Pink Chic Upholstered Bed - Headboard
The next step was to decide on a shape for the headboard. There are SOOO many options out there but I liked the rounded rectangle option. My husband built out the frame with 2x6 boards and then added 1/8" plywood on the back. Many plans call for thick players of foam and then a layer of batting stapled over top. We didn't care to have a thick headboard so we did a thin layer of foam, covered with carpet padding - which turns out is much cheaper than the thicker foam and batting. We got many of the materials at our local Habitat ReStore to save even more money.
To make all the stapling smoother, we did use an industrial-strength staple gun. Since my husband is in the home improvements business that was a business expense that we were able to use for that project. You can definitely make the pink upholstered bed without it if needed.
We debated building the bedframe from scratch but at the end of the day, it was cheaper to get a used wooden bedframe and repurpose the pieces.
We found a king-size wooden bed frame at the Habitat ReStore for $35 and took the pieces apart to make our pink upholstered bed. Then we covered each bed frame piece with the same carpet padding and then wrapped it in the upholstery. We then screwed the bedframe pieces back together after the pink upholstery was in place. For the upholstery stapling, we used this amazing narrow staple gun, which my husband already had.
Using the bedframe pieces we had repurposed as well as the repurposed slats, we put the chic pink upholstered frame together. I wanted sleek gold accents, so we went with these furniture legs from Amazon. I went with the 7" bed legs.
To make the bed frame a little more secure for our new mattress, we added the same 1/8" plywood over the slats and center support under the slats. Depending on what kind of bed frame you repurpose, you may or may not need to do that step.
To finishing the pink upholstered bed, we installed the headboard onto the bed frame, put on our new mattress, and used some of the extra pink upholstery fabric to make two pillows. I am OBSESSED with how the pink bed turned out. It looks so chic and modern and really helped bring my chic feminine vision to life.
To finish the bedroom makeover, we spray painted these new lamps gold to match the bed legs, added new lucite & gold hardware to the furniture, and laid down this beautiful new rug. I hope this chic pink upholstered bed on a budget inspires your bedroom makeover. Be sure to share your pics with me @mycancerchic on social.
