After months of reading other posts, talking to mom friends and recounting our own hospital stays during breast cancer and infertility we have finalized our hospital packing list. It's 4 weeks until go-time and it feels good to have the items narrowed down and feel a bit more prepared for delivery. I have a feeling we won't use 90% of the items we bring, but I'd rather be over-prepared as first-time parents.
For our packing lists, I broke it down by category: baby, mama & daddy/partner. I also have a list of labor items and postpartum items. If you want to check out the overview video of me packing the suitcase, check out the IGTV video.
All items that I could find online, I have linked below each checklist. Also check out our essential registry items.

Labor Item
During our birth class, we got to try all kinds of massaging tools, labor positions and "accessories" to labor with including chairs, "the peanut" (similar to an exercise ball but oddly shaped) and more. We were also encouraged to bring items that would help us relax. This list will be different for each person, but here are the things we decided to bring. Our hospital has baths, birthing balls and "the peanut".
- Handheld back massager
- Essential oils (lavender is soothing for me)
- Speaker (for calming soundtrack or hype music haha)
- Water labor clothes
Post-Partum Care
SOOOO thankful for all the recommendations available online and everything you all have shared. I'll be relying on these for my lady parts!
- Padsicles - planning to prep mine with witch hazel and have them frozen and ready when we get home. 3 DIY Padsicle "Recipes"
- Momwasher - you all swear by this as a peri-bottlrpostpartum. You use this to cleanse when using the bathroom to dilute urine, reduce pain and cleanse
- Witch hazel healing foam - this foam is for pain relief of perineal pain, tearing and can also be used for hemorrhoids
- Dermoplast - many of your recommended this as an additional pain relief spray. Many nurses suggest spraying on pads and not directly on your nether regions.
- Tucks cooling pads - similar to the padsicles but smaller. Many of you with tearing recommended these.
Other Recommended Items
- Burp cloths
- Nail file/clippers
- Sound machine
- Multiple sizes of clothes in case baby is small or LARGE.
I hope these lists and our research are helpful for other parents preparing for delivery! We can't wait to meet our little man. I will loop back around after birth to update this post with what we really used hehe.
