My commitment to self-compassion started 6 years ago when I was diagnosed with breast cancer and continues every day as I recommit to myself. Journaling has been an important part of my journey and today I asked one of my inspiring friends, Isabelle, to write a guest post on the topic of self-love journal prompts. I hope you find this post helpful in your own self-compassion journey.
I also highly recommend this self-compassion workbook as a great concrete way to kick off your self-compassion journey.
10 Journal prompts on self-love for women
Self-love journaling shouldn’t be an impossible challenge. But with society expectations, unreal beauty standards, and everyone on Instagram living a “perfect life,” it can feel pretty much like that. Self-love journaling can help.
To be very honest with you, even as a personal development specialist, I too struggle with the whole “love yourself just as you are” from time to time. Even Anna, who is a BOSS (in all senses of the word), deals with this feeling sometimes
How can I love myself when I wake up feeling bloated, with no time for my workout, and the only thing keeping me from losing it is the thought of having pizza for dinner (yep, we all have been there)?
During those moments where self-love seems like a far-away impossible dream, journaling is one of the main things that helps me feel grounded and empowered again. Today I will share some of my favorite self-love journal prompts
How Can Self-Love Journal Prompts Help with Confidence
I know that the whole concept of writing to help you with your feelings can sound a little woo-woo. Still, scientists have found over and over again how this activity can help with anxiety, depression, and stress. Who Am I to go against the doctor’s orders?
When I first started self-love journal activities, I felt a little lost. Where are you supposed to start? What are the right questions to ask?
If you are also asking yourself those questions, you got it, dear! I’m about to share with you ten of my favorite journal prompts on self-love, crafted with marvelous real-life women in mind… just like you!
So, grab a cup of coffee or tea (I will go with prosecco, but you can join me if you want) and take a deep breath. Then, read over the following questions, paying attention to every word.
My wish for you is that they will help you uncover new things you love about yourself while reminding you of your awesomeness and uniqueness.
Are you ready to do this?
10 Unique Self-Love Journal Prompts
- What is one thing that you are *REALLY* good at? (i.e., people even ask your help on matters related to that)
- What is one personal accomplishment that makes you super proud of yourself?
- What would you not change about your body?
- What would you not change about your personality?
- What would you not change about your story?
- What does your partner/kid/best friend admire the most about you? (*ask them!)
- What do you love the most about your life right now?
- What negative feelings about yourself do you need to let go of?
- Where in your life do you need to give yourself more grace?
- How can you be intentional about giving yourself some self-love today?
How to Incorporate Your Self-Love Journal Prompts
Now that you are already getting familiar with our self-love journal questions, let’s talk about incorporating them into your daily routine. Again, getting practical is the key to success!
- One of my favorite ways to use this type of journal prompts and get the most out of it is to create an experience.
- Take a few minutes to go to a place where you feel happy and grounded and won’t be interrupted. If you are a mom and your kids are around, this can be almost impossible, I know!
- But think about when they are busy and/or entertained- soccer practice, nap time, or even during their favorite tv show. No one knows their schedule better than you.
- To make this moment extra special, you can light your favorite candle and put some relaxing music on. I also like to bring my favorite drink with me to give an extra dose of specialness to the moment.
- Bring your journal and a pen with you (write it down instead of typing, if possible. Your brain will process the information better if you do so). Then, take a deep breath and start going through the questions.
- You can answer all of them or just a few at a time. Do whatever feels right for you and fits the amount of time you have available.
- I hope you know you are doing better than you think. I am so proud of you for the decision of being intentional about how you see and treat yourself! You got this!
Always remember: you deserve to live a life you are absolutely in love with!
